Happy Birthday. By the way, do you make as much from the books when they sell them cheap as when they are full price? I bought five copies of Rapunzel at the $6 price. For Christmas presents for nieces and nephews!
Edith--The way publishing and big book stores work now is so wonky that just about any book with a large print run (in this case, the Rapunzel paperback) is bound to be discounted drastically from time to time. Sometimes a publisher needs room in the warehouse, so they'll mark down a box or two, or twenty.
Those books are out there, somebody's going to buy them. I like to post those deals here on my blog. I figure everyone who follows this blog has bought a book or two of mine at full price.
I don't expect these cheap Rapunzels to be around too long (although they are back up right now on Amazon) once Jack comes out.
To answer your question, no, I don't make as much. As a somewhat new illustrator, I rely on the advance payment the publisher gives me when the artwork is done. Royalty checks (the money I get from books sold) have never been a major income source for me. Some day...
Happy birthday!
